How to Rent a Porta Potty: The Important Things to Understand and Do

Oct 8, 2019 | Porta Potty

If you are looking to rent a porta potty, there are some things you should know and do.

So, you’ve got an amazing party planned out. Everyone’s going to have a blast, stay from start to finish, and never want to leave the event.

Only one problem… If they’re going to stay from start to finish, and the event lasts for more than 2 hours, will they have access to a bathroom during that time?

The question isn’t is there a bathroom at the location? the question is is there enough bathrooms at the location for the number of people?

If the answer is “no”, then you can rent a porta potty.

If you’ve never rented one previously, here are a few tips to consider when planning for that portion of your party.

1. Consider the Event’s Size and Scale

As previously mentioned, one of the most essential questions to ask during your party planning is will there be enough bathrooms at the location for my number of guests?

Which is a great segway into the first thing you’ll want to consider when renting a porta potty: how many will you need?

If you don’t rent enough, you run the risk of your guests being unhappy and looking down upon the organization of the entire event. Not to mention the “wear and tear” a porta potty goes through with each use.

Because of that, there are two important things to factor in this step: 1) how many people are attending? and 2) what’s the size of the event’s layout?

The general rule of thumb is to provide at least one porta potty for every 50 guests that you have attending.

More than that, will the porta potties be accessible to your guests?

Take a county fair, for example. While the fair itself may not be a huge, space-eating event, there are booths, rides, and events the guests have to walk around.

That means the walkways are winding and confusing, so the porta potties need to be dispersed throughout so that there’s always 1 or 2 nearby.

2. Think Through the Event’s Time Details

Not only is it important to weigh-out the duration and date of the event for your guest’s porta potty needs, but it will also affect your rental rate.

Work out specifics on both the allotted time frame for your event and the date(s) that you’ll need them.

If the event spans over more than one day, you’ll need to factor that in. Obviously, the porta potties won’t be taken away and then brought back in-between the few days.

This helps maximize the convenience of your guests and event workers.

3. Search for Local Vendors

You may have never realized it, but chances are that you have a neighborhood-friendly porta potty vendor near you.

Other than supporting the local businesses in your community, renting from a nearby vendor also allows you to get the lowest possible rates for renting.

That means you won’t have to worry about the excess charges for distribution to-and-from the event. Pay the honest cost of renting the porta potties and having them transferred from the nearest vendor to your event’s location.

However, don’t settle for the first porta potty vendor that you find, you may have more than one by you. Some are always going to be better than others, so it’s best to have options for you to compare side-by-side.

The specifics that you listed in step 1 and 2 of this list will play a vital role in the price range that you receive.

4. Request a Quote from the Vendor

Local vendors are always going to be willing to work with you for the schematics of your event.

However, their prices will still depend on the information you can provide for them. The more info you give them on the date, time, headcount, etc. will help them recommend the services and porta potty count you’ll need.

After they’ve recommended that to you, it’s time to request a quote from each of the vendors that you’re talking with.

While some prices may be lower than the others, that doesn’t mean you should automatically jump all over it. There are other things you need to consider as well:

What is the quality of their porta potties? Are they recommended by former customers? Are they close to your event’s location?

Ask yourself several questions to weigh out each vendor’s pros and cons will help you make the right decision for your event and its budget.

5. Are There Any Add-ons You’ll Need?

The last thing to consider before signing the contract on the quote that you receive, are there any add-ons that they’d recommend for your event?

For example, if your event has animals involved, you may want to provide a portable hand-washing station for your guests to rinse-up after walking around.

Heck, maybe it makes more sense to rent a luxury portable restroom trailer at that point to give your guests the ultimate comfort while going about their business.

Whatever the case may be, make sure to find the necessary porta potty uses for your event. No need to go overboard, just make sure to have the nessary items (such as porta potties and hand washing station) for your guests.
