Hazardous Waste
Unacceptable waste includes but is not limited to:
- Explosives: dynamite, hand grenades, blasting caps, ammunition, volatile gases/liquids, any other explosives
- Liquid Wastes (as defined by Michigan Department of Environmental Quality) – includes Septage and untreated sewage
- Pathological or Biological Waste (as defined by Michigan Department of Environmental Quality)
- Radioactive Waste
- Yard Clippings (as defined by Michigan Department of Environmental Quality)
- Asbestos
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
- Motor Oil
- Sealed Drums
- Beverage Containers (as defined by Michigan Department of Environmental Quality)
- Hazardous Waste (as defined under Federal, State and Local laws and regulations)
- Lead Acid Batteries*
- Whole motor vehicle tires*
- Propane tanks*
- Freon and other refrigerants*
- Mattresses*
- Whole Tires*
*Items with this indicator are prohibited from being disposed as mixed waste but are accepted separately. Additional disposal fees may apply.
No Hazardous Waste!! Chemicals can endanger people and the environment if disposed in the trash.
A product is considered hazardous if it has one or more of the following properties:
- Toxic – poisonous or lethal when ingested, touched or inhaled
- Flammable – ignitable and burns easily
- Corrosive – eats through materials & living tissue
- Reactive – can possibly explode or react with other chemicals
